NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Led by junior Celia Franklin (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier), the Northwestern Wildcats won their first competition of the 2006 season, the 6K Chuck Carroll Invitational hosted by North Central College in Naperville. Franklin finished first with a time of 23:14 seven of the 'Cats finished in the top 10. On a hot day at DuPage River Park the 'Cats dominated the field. Franklin took the overall title. The next Wildcat was sophomore Allison King (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) who finished in third with a time of 23:22. Sophomore Carly Brown (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead) took fifth place at 23:40. Northwestern occupied positions seven through 10 on the final score sheet. Sophomore Hilary Forman (Prairie Village, Kan./Pembroke) and Junior Marie Grabinski (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) were the last to score for the 'Cats. A duo of freshmen, Britta Helwig (Chicago, Ill./Luther North) and Paulina Garcia (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood), finished ninth and 10th respectively. Northwestern's first seven runners were separated by just over a minute. "I was very pleased with the girls' effort on a very hot day," head coach Amy Tush said. "Celia ran a very smart race and although it is something we still need to improve on, I was very pleased with the narrow gap between our runners." The 'Cats' next race is at noon Saturday at the Midwest Collegiate Open in Kenosha, Wis.
