Nov. 29, 2005

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Christie Gardner (West Bend, Wis./West Bend East) has been named an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection, the conference office announced today.

The honor is the first All-Big Ten accolade of Gardner's career. The senior was a three-time conference Defensive Player of the Week in 2005.

Gardner set Northwestern's single-match, single-season and career digs records while leading the Wildcats to their third NCAA Tournament berth in the past four years in 2005.

She is Northwestern's first All-Big Ten selection since Erika Lange was named to the first team in 2003.

In addition, junior Lauren Greenwood (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) was named Northwestern's volleyball Sportsmanship honoree. She now is a candidate for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes one male and one female student-athlete from each conference institution at the end of the school year.
