EVANSTON, Ill. -- After finishing the nonconference portion of its schedule with a 9-2 record, Northwestern begins the 2007 Big Ten season on the road this weekend with matches at No. 23 Ohio State and No. 3 Penn State.

The Wildcats open conference play at 6 p.m. CT Friday, Sept. 21, in Columbus, Ohio, before facing the Nittany Lions at 6 p.m. CT Saturday, Sept. 22, in University Park, Pa. The matches mark the second-consecutive league weekend for NU against those schools after closing the 2006 season versus OSU and PSU.

Northwestern finished its out-of-conference schedule on a roll, winning its last seven matches in dominating fashion. The Wildcats led the Big Ten with a .105 opponents' hitting percentage and 2.03 aces per game while ranking in the top four in the conference in every team statistical category during the first part of the season.

Sophomore Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) is the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after earning MVP honors at last weekend's Wildcat Classic. She now ranks sixth in the nation with 6.33 digs per game.

Freshman setter Elyse Glab (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) leads the Big Ten with 13.91 assists per game, a total that would rank her second in the nation. Glab has appeared in 61 percent of NU's games; 67 percent is needed for inclusion in the NCAA rankings.

The No. 23 Buckeyes enter conference play with a 6-3 record after going 0-2 at their Sports Imports Classic last weekend with losses to No. 4 USC and Oregon.

The third-ranked Nittany Lions are 8-2 beginning Big Ten play, with their only losses coming against No. 1 Nebraska and No. 2 Stanford. Penn State will play Michigan State on Friday before Northwestern rolls into town for Saturday's match.
