Doubles Pair and Two Singles Players Selected for NCAA Championships Field
May 2, 2007 EVANSTON, Ill. -- Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) will look to become NU's first two-time NCAA doubles champion as the senior and sophomore Big Ten Player of the Year Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) have received a bid to the 2007 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships doubles competition. Rose and Big Ten Freshman of the Year Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) have each been selected as one of the 64 players to compete in the singles tournament. The singles and doubles competitions will run from May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. For Prousis, this is her second selection to the NCAA doubles championships. She is looking for her second NCAA title and her second-straight doubles All-America honor. Rose and Prousis received the Big Ten's automatic selection. Rose, the nation's 13th-ranked singles player and reigning Big Ten Player of the Year, will compete in her second NCAA singles championship in her second season at NU. She received the Big Ten's automatic qualifier bid and is seeded in the 9-16 portion of the bracket. Murray, who captured Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors, is ranked 43rd nationally. She owns a 29-10 record and was 11-6 for the 'Cats at No. 2 singles.
Rules and Selection Criteria The selection of teams and individuals for the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships is based on the prescribed criteria listed in the championships handbook and approved by the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet. Automatic qualification into the Division I singles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125 for singles. For conferences with more than one singles player within the ITA Top 125, the subcommittee will apply the NCAA selection criteria to determine which student-athlete is the automatic qualifier from those conferences. Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for doubles. For conferences with more than one doubles team within the ITA Top 60, the subcommittee will apply the NCAA selection criteria to determine which doubles team is the automatic qualifier from those conferences.
