Emily Wong Wins Three Gold Medals at Tri Nations Cup

QUEBEC CITY, Quebec -- Rising junior Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's) won gold in the women's 100-meter freestyle and helped Canada to victory in the women's 4x50-meter freestyle relay on Saturday at the Tri Nations Cup, bringing her gold-medal haul to three to conclude the competition. The competition featured the top prospects to challenge for spots on the 2012 Olympic teams for Canada, France and Britain. In the 100 freestyle, Wong led Canada to a 1-2 finish clocking a time of 56.36 with Seanna Mitchell of Calgary second at 57.22 and Claudia Coleman of Britain third at 57.57. In the 4X50 freestyle relay, Wong and Mitchell swam the final two lengths, respectively, to lead Canada to victory in 1:43.76. On Friday, Wong was a member of the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, which also took gold for Canada. Wong won three honorable-mention All-America honors for Northwestern at the 2008 NCAA Championships, combining with her teammates in the 200-, 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays.
