Four NU Women Honored by Big Ten
Nov. 4, 2004 All-Big Ten Release in PDF Format EVANSTON, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced the All-Big Ten Women's Soccer Teams Wednesday night at a function hosted by Ohio State University in preparation for Thursday's first-round action at the Big Ten Tournament. Four NU women received All-Big Ten recognition. Freshman Kelsey Hans was a double honoree Wednesday night. The freshman, who has already set the school's single-season record for total goals as well as the marks for Big Ten goals (7) and points (15), was named second-team All-Big Ten and also earned a spot on the Big Ten's All-Freshman Team. Sophomore Shannon Schneeman -- a member of last year's Big Ten All-Freshman Team -- and classmate Whitney Jones were also named second-team All-Big Ten. Schneeman finished the season with five assists in Big Ten play, tying a school record, while Jones had a 1.16 goals-against average in the Wildcat goal. Freshman Kelly Sitkowski joined Hans on the Big Ten's All-Freshman Team; this marked the first time NU has had two women named to the All-Freshman Team. Penn State earned three of the Big Ten's four individual honors, as Tiffany Weimer was the Offensive Player of the Year, Natalie Jacobs was the Defensive Player of the Year, and head coach Paula Wilkins was the Coach of the Year. Ohio State's Lara Dickenmann averted a Nittany Lion sweep by being named the Big Ten's Freshman of the Year.
