The 'Cats enter Friday's contest as winners of three-straight and owners of a 4-1 record. Shannon Schneeman (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) leads the team in goals with four out of the midfield and senior Kelsey Hans (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) has two goals on the year and 30 for her career to make her NU's all-time leading goal-scorer.
After this weekend, the 'Cats will face two more non-conference opponents at home before beginning the Big Ten slate on the road.
Quoting Coach Erickson
"I think Penn is going to emerge as one of the top teams in the Ivy League this year," Erickson said. "They are going to be a great challenge for us on Friday and we're excited to face such a quality out-of-region team."
"Colgate is another well-coached and organized team; they have some local products on their team who are having great seasons thus far and we'll need to be aware of those players in particular."
Hans Solo Atop NU's Goal-Scoring List
With her goal against Loyola on Wednesday, Kelsey Hans passed head coach Stephanie Erickson for first place on NU's all-time goals list. Hans' scored her 30th career goal at 46:01 to put the 'Cats up 3-0. Erickson's record stood for more than 10 years as the current head coach joined the program for its inception in 1994. Hans is close to breaking another Erickson record as with 71 career points, she needs only two to pass Erickson's all-time mark of 73.
Schneeman is Steamin'
Fifth-year senior Shannon Schneeman is making the most of her last year as a Wildcat. The senior already has four goals through five contests in 2007 including two game-winners. Schneeman scored the first goal on NU's new Lakeside Field -- a header to put the 'Cats up 1-0 over Loyola. She took over the second half of NU's game against UNC Greensboro--scoring a goal less than a minute into the second half to tie the game at 2-2 and then notching the game-winning goal to give the Wildcats a 3-2 victory. Schneeman now has 15 career goals and 39 career points.
Coming Out Firing
Senior Kelsey Hans has not wasted any time taking her chances at the opposing net. Hans, who now has 234 shots for her career, has fired off 21 through the 'Cats' first five games. She leads the team and the Big Ten in the category and has nine shots on goal with two goals. The Wildcats have taken 63 shots as a team. Freshman Sam Greene is second on the team with nine.
Sam I Am
Freshman Sam Greene (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) has seen plenty of the pitch in her first two games in the purple and white. The freshman didn't even need one full game to record her first point as she assisted on Alicia Herczeg's (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura) double overtime game-winner against Drake. She scored her first goal of the season against UNC Greensboro on 9/7.
