Box Score EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's soccer team fell to 15th-ranked Illinois, 4-0, Friday night in Champaign. With the loss, the Wildcats were eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament, which will take place in two weeks in Madison, Wis. The `Cats entered the match still with a chance to make the tourney, thanks to Michigan's 2-1 overtime win over Michigan State earlier Friday. Northwestern (7-8-1, 3-6-1) definitely seemed to be in a bend-but-don't-break mode most of the way against the potent Illini (11-3-2, 7-1-2); in fact, Illinois outshot NU 10-2 in the first half. However, the teams went into the break scoreless. The score remained that way as the match passed the hour mark. Things took a dramatic downturn for Northwestern after that, though. In the 64th minute, a Wildcat giveaway in their own goal box turned into a goal for Illinois' Andrea Ridgeway. Once the first goal came, the floodgates opened up. Eight minutes later, Tara Hurless scored the first of two she would get on the night when she fired home a shot from the top of the box. Five minutes later, Eva Strickland headed home a serve from Christen Karniski to give the Illini a three-goal lead. Illinois' final goal came with 1:36 remaining when Hurless headed in a serve from Strickland. Illinois outshot Northwestern 23-6 on the night. Whitney Jones, NU's freshman goalkeeper, came up with four saves; she was matched in that category by Illinois' Leisha Alcia. Northwestern is off until next weekend, when the Wildcats travel to Milwaukee for matches against Marquette (Friday) and UW-Milwaukee (Sunday). MATCH SUMMARY
