EVANSTON, Ill. -- Chris Regenberg, the only coach to guide Northwestern's women's golf program since its beginning in 1992, has announced that she will step down as head coach at the conclusion of the 2007-08 season.

Now in her 16th season as the Wildcats' head mentor, Regenberg's most successful campaign came in 1999-2000, when her squad advanced to the NCAA National Championships. That year, she was named the Midwest Coach of the Year by the National Golf Coaches Association. Northwestern's top Big Ten Championships' finish came in 2000-01 -- a tie for second place -- while also recording two third-place finishes. Regenberg's teams have captured nine team tournament titles during her tenure. In addition, she led the Wildcats to seven NCAA Regional Championship appearances in the last eight years.

Regenberg began her collegiate coaching career at her alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where as a player she earned honors as a Collegiate AIAW Regional All-American in 1982. After graduating in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in behavioral science and law, she immediately accepted a job as the Badgers' co-head women's golf coach. In 1985, she became the head coach, a position she held until 1989.
