EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University head coach Chris Regenberg announced the signing of Justina Yu (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) to a National Letter of Intent on Thursday. Yu and early signees Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) will begin play for the Wildcat women's golf team in the fall of 2004.

"Justina will be a great student-athlete representative for Northwestern," Regenberg said.

Yu had a big impact on the Nevada prep golf scene in 2003. She fired a 1-under 71 in the Sunset Regional golf tournament to claim top honors. Her winning score helped propel Bishop Gorman to the team title as well. Yu won the individual title and led Bishop Gorman to the team championship at the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association 4A Girls Golf State Tournament. She finished the tournament at 3-over, good for a five-stroke victory.

On the 2003 junior circuit, Yu finished third in a Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series event in Auburn, Calif. and was runner-up at an International Junior Golf Tour tournament in her hometown. Her personal golf coach is Greb Labelle from the Butch Harmon Golf School.

"Justina has tremendous tournament experience," Regenberg said. "She is accustomed to being around great players in her hometown environment, and she has the work ethic to become a large contributor to our program."
