BRYAN, Texas -- Northwestern came up short in its quest for the program's second trip to the NCAA National Championships, finishing 10th at the NCAA Central Regional Championships, which were held at Texas A&M's Traditions Club.

The Wildcats, who held the No. 6 spot after the first and second rounds, fired a 25-over 313 on Saturday and fell seven strokes shy of making the NCAA "cut." The top eight finishing teams advance to the NCAA Championships May 23-26 in Columbus, Ohio.

Southern California turned in the best round of the tournament -- a 2-under 286 -- to overtake top-ranked Duke and win the Central Regional team title by two strokes. Pepperdine, Florida, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Kent State and Nebraska finished a respective three through eight and will join the Trojans and Blue Devils in Columbus.

Michigan State finished in ninth place, two strokes in front of the Wildcats, who were making their sixth NCAA tournament appearance in the last seven years.

Junior Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) and freshman Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) both finished 12-over (228) for the tournament to lead Northwestern. They finished in 21st place. Kim fired a 5-over 77 on Saturday and Hong carded a 6-over 78.

Sophomore Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) placed 64th with a 22-over 238 (79-78-81). Junior Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) was 66th with a 23-over 239 (81-81-77). Sophomore Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) rounded out NU's contingent with a 28-over 244 (83-77-84), 82nd place.
