EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Battling wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour, Northwestern's women's golf team was unable to make any headway in trying to reach the top half of the team leaderboard Friday at the Forest Akers West Golf Course.

Beginning the day in 14th place, the Wildcats dropped to 18th place at 83-over-par (325-334=658) and are 32 strokes behind eighth-place Baylor. In order to advance to the national championships in Seattle, a team must finish in the top eight.

The best individual round of the day was a 9-over-par 81 from sophomore Hana Kim (Encino, Calif./Brentwood). She is now 19-over (82-81=163) for the tournament and tied for 58th place overall. Sophomore Lauren Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) is leading the way for NU, shooting 18-over (78-84=162). She is in a 50th-place tie.

Junior Elizabeth Burden (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) (83-84=167) and freshman Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) (82-85=167) are tied for 77th place at 23-over each. Senior Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) is in 97th place with a score of 174 (88-86).

With one round left to play on Saturday, a pair of Ohio schools, Kent State (304-317=621) and Ohio State (311-310=621), are tied for the team lead. Purdue is third (309-314=623), two strokes behind the Golden Flashes and Buckeyes.
