URBANA, Ill. -- Playing the final two rounds in less-than-ideal weather conditions, Northwestern's women's golf team was unable to make up any ground on Sunday and finished seventh at the Big Ten Championships. The tournament, which was hosted by the University of Illinois, was held at the Stone Creek Golf Club.
The Wildcats, who will now wait to learn about their NCAA regional fate, saw their scores rise drastically over the weekend. The third round, which was suspended on Saturday due to weather, was completed Sunday morning. Immediately after the conclusion of the third round, the teams began the fourth and final round.
Rain, windy conditions and below-average spring temperatures led to the higher scores. Northwestern posted rounds of 304 and 302 on Friday, but only 335 and 334 on Sunday. Those are the two highest team rounds for Northwestern this year.
Fourth-ranked Ohio State captured this year's championship for its eighth Big Ten title since 1982. OSU's Mollie Fankhauser was the tournament's individual medalist for a second straight year.
