COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Northwestern's women's golf team posted one of the better team scores on Sunday, but was unable to climb any higher in the standings and finished seventh at the 2004 Big Ten Championships, held at Ohio State's Scarlet Course. The 37th-ranked Wildcats posted a 96-over 1,248 (313-305-316-314), five strokes behind Michigan and Wisconsin, which tied for fifth place.

The host Buckeyes, ranked third nationally, won their third straight Big Ten title by coming from behind and posting a 5-over 293 -- the best single-round team score of the tournament -- to beat second-place Indiana by a comfortable 17 strokes in a steady rain. The Hoosiers led the team competition by two strokes after three rounds. Indiana's Danah Ford, however, held on to win the individual title with a tournament-record score. She was the only player to shoot under par (1-under 287) for the tournament.

Freshman Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex School) rebounded from Saturday's tough round and posted a 4-over 76 to finish in an 11th-place tie. Robb finished 19-over (75-73-83-76=307) for the four rounds.

Junior Mary Ellen Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) finished two strokes behind Robb for a 13th-place finish. She finished 21-over (76-78-76-79=309).

Northwestern's other junior, Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake), climbed to 21st after shooting a 6-over 78 on Sunday. She was 26-over (80-74-82-78=314) for the three days.

The Wildcats' other finishers included: freshman Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), who placed 39th (34-over, 83-80-78-81=322); senior Lauren Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett), who placed 49th (41-over, 83-85-80-81=329); and freshman Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood), who placed 51st (42-over, 82-83-82-83=330).

Despite Kim's sub-par 51st-place finish, she was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Kim, who earlier this spring was named a Big Ten Golfer of the Week, had three top-10 finishes in the past six weeks.
