Ina Kim Leads NU at Big Ten Championships; Wildcats in 10th Place

Individual Results by School IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Northwestern's women's golf team is tied for 10th place with the host school, the University of Iowa, after the first day of action at the Big Ten Championships. This year's tournament is being played at the Finkbine Golf Course (par 73, 6,053 yards), the site of last year's Big Ten Men's Championships. Led by Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) and Elizabeth Burden (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest), the Wildcats fired team scores of 319 and 314 for the first two rounds. Kim is tied for 13th place with a 9-over 155. She carded rounds of 78 and 77. Burden, NU's top-ranked golfer this season, shot a 3-over 76 for the first 18 holes and then an 80 for the second 18 to finish at 10-over. The teams battled gusty winds, especially early in the day during the first round. Ohio State, the defending Big Ten champion, is in first place, holding a 15-stroke lead over Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. Indiana's Karen Dennison is the first-day leader with a 1-under 145. Sophomore Mary Ellen Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) is tied for 30th place, at 13-over (81-78=159). Senior Erin Breslin (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) and junior Lauren Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) are separated by a stroke and in 49th and 50th place, respectively. Breslin is 19-over (86-79=165) while Lauren is 20-over (84-82=166).
