Rain Cancels Final Round of Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational; Wildcats Finish Sixth
April 21, 2002
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Just like the men's tournament at Ohio State a week ago, this weekend's women's tourney, the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, had its final round canceled due to rain. As a result, NU's women's team placed sixth with a two-round score of 622 (46-over-par). The event was held at Ohio State's Scarlet Course, a par-72, 6,037-yard course. Kent State won the tournament, with spots two through five filled by Big Ten teams: No. 4 Ohio State was second (603), No. 13 Michigan State was third (604), No. 37 Indiana was fourth (6-14) and No. 21 Purdue was fifth (620). Northwestern now heads to Champaign-Urbana, Ill., for this week's (April 26-28) Big Ten Championships. Senior Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and sophomore Hana Kim (Encino, Calif./Brentwood) paced the NU attack with 10-over-par 154's. Those two-round results placed them in a 16th-place tie.
