BRYAN, Texas -- Northwestern sits in sixth-place after the first day of competition at the 15th Annual Texas A&M "Mo"Morial Tournament. The `Cats shot a +71 at Traditions Golf Course, and sit nine strokes behind Kent State for fifth place.

After the first round of play was suspended Friday due to inclement weather, the 15-team field began play at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. NU concluded round one in a seventh-place tie with Iowa State at +33. Junior Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) shot a 78 in round one to lead the `Cats.

Northwestern began to make a run in round two, pulling into sixth on the leader board before play was suspended due to darkness. The Wildcats will conclude their second round Sunday morning before the final round gets underway.

Individually, freshman Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) has been the top performer for the `Cats, shooting a +12 through the 13th hole and is currently tied for seventh. Hong is tied for 18th and will resume play on the 16th hole three strokes behind Lindenschmidt.

Senior Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Claire) sits at +20 through 14 holes, while freshman Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) is at +24 through 15 holes and senior Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) will resume play on the 16th hole at +34.

Big Ten opponent Michigan State leads the tournament by four strokes over Denver. The final round gets underway Sunday morning at 8 a.m. with live tournament scoring available at golfstat.com.
