After First Two Rounds, Alice Kim Holds One-Stroke Lead at Central District Invitational

PARRISH, Fla. -- Led by junior Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood), Northwestern is in contention for the team championship at the 2006 Central District Invitational, being held at the River Wilderness Golf Club. The Wildcats, who are tied with Nebraska for fifth place, are just one stroke back of Ohio State, SMU and Missouri. Baylor, which shot a 10-over 298 in the second round, leads the 14-team field by nine shots. Northwestern turned in rounds of 12-over (300) and 22-over (310) for its 34-over 610. Kim, who is bidding to win her first college tournament, was atop the leaderboard much of the day. Midway through her second round, she moved to 5-under for the tournament. Kim finished the second round at 2-over and closed the day at even par (70-74=144). She holds a 1-stroke lead over SMU's Lacey Jones heading into Tuesday's final round. Five players are five back at 4-over. Freshman Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) is in 14th place with a 7-over 151 (74-77). Sophomore Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) is 45th after rounds of 78 and 80 for a 14-over 158. Sophomore Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and junior Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) are tied for 62nd at 16-over (160).
