Under the direction and leadership of 16th-year head coach Chris Regenberg, Northwestern's women's golf program continues its rise to the top of the college golf world. The only mentor to lead Northwestern, Regenberg has guided the Wildcats to their best seasons the past eight years. She announced earlier this year that this would be her final season coaching the Wildcats. The Wildcats, who posted their top Big Ten finish (second) in 2001, have made seven NCAA Regional Championship appearances in the last eight years. In 1999-2000, Regenberg directed NU to its first NCAA Championship appearance and also was named Midwest Coach of the Year by the National Golf Coaches Association. She also led her squad to a top-five finish in every tournament but one, in which the team finished sixth. In the last nine years, Regenberg's teams have won seven team championships, finished second five times and third 25 times. The Wildcats finished third at the 2003 and 2007 Big Ten Championships. She also has directed NU to its highest national ranking, reaching No. 7 in 2000-01. Regenberg's strength lies in her teaching abilities, working as an instructor for 25 years. "I believe I can help a player of any ability level reach their playing potential by improving swing and mental techniques," says Regenberg. Regenberg has at her disposal state-of-the-art equipment and facilities of the new Gleacher Golf Center, the new Luke Donald Outdoor Practice Facility at The Glen Club in Glenview, Ill., and the private country club facilities made available to Northwestern's golf squad. "At Northwestern, we offer a wealth of opportunities for serious players. They can become as successful as their desire leads them." In addition to coaching, Regenberg is a teaching professional at the prestigious North Shore Country Club in Glenview. She also has served as assistant golf pro at Green Acres Country Club (Northbrook, Ill.), Butterfield Country Club (Oak Brook, Ill.), Bermuda Dunes Country Club (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.), Exmoor Country Club (Highland Park, Ill.) and Blackhawk Country Club (Madison, Wis.). A Class "A" PGA Professional, Regenberg teaches individual lessons, clinics and camps throughout the year. Regenberg began her collegiate coaching career at her alma mater, Wisconsin, where as a player she earned honors as a Collegiate AIAW Regional All-American in 1982. After graduating in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in behavioral science and law, she immediately accepted a job as the Badgers' co-head women's golf coach. In 1985, she became the head coach, a position she held until 1989. To assist Wildcat golfers, Regenberg draws from her own tournament experience. She was a member of the 1984 Futures Mini Tour and the 1989 Players West Golf Tour. Her tournament successes include four Wisconsin State Amateur championships.
