PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Northwestern senior co-captain Christine Nannicelli (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) has been named to the 2005 All-Big Ten Second Team, her first all-conference team accolade.

Nannicelli has become a mainstay on the Wildcat backline, and has made a name for herself as one of the best defenders in the conference. While an impressive defensive player, she has displayed her offensive prowess as well, tallying 32 career points on 11 goals and 10 assists, including a goal and three assists this season. Nannicelli has played in 72 matches during her collegiate career, starting 70 of them.

With the award, Nannicelli becomes the 66th player in Northwestern field hockey history to garner all-conference honors.

Senior Rachel Cody (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) was also named a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree. The Big Ten annually selects honorees from each team who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior to be eligible for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, announced at the end of the academic year.
