EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Head Field Hockey Coach Kelly McCollum has announced two additions to the Wildcats' class of 2010. Future Wildcats Alyssa Elmy (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) and Courtney Coburn (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) have accepted offers of admission and will join the 'Cats for the 2006 season.

Elmy will come to Evanston as an accomplished high school player who garnered honorable mention all-state honors as a senior. Last season, she led her team to a Division II championship for the first time in school history. She finished her varsity career with 111 points on 40 goals and 31 assists

"Alyssa is an extremely poised player with tremendous speed," McCollum said. "She will be an excellent addition to our attack in either the midfield or on the forward line. Her versatility, discipline and unselfish play make her a very threatening playmaker," McCollum said.

In club play, Elmy suited up for three years with Spirit USA and one with Majestyx at the National Festival and Indoor Tournaments. She helped lead her team to a gold medal in the USFHA U-16 National Futures championship in 2003. She was also a medalist at the 2002 and 2003 Keystone State Games.

In the classroom, Elmy is a member of the National Honor Society, the United States Achievement Academy for Mathematics and Social Studies and National Honor Roll.

Coburn is a three-time letterwinner for Upper Arlington High School, who was an all-state and two-time all-league selection. She co-captained the Golden Bears 2005 squad to a 16-3 record and an appearance in the Ohio High School Athletic Association state qualifying tournament.

"Courtney is a strong, steady defender," McCollum said. "She has the competitive edge we are looking for and I am confident that she is coming to Northwestern to win. She has been a part of a winning tradition at Upper Arlington and we look forward to her drive and athleticism as a Wildcat."

Coburn is also a NFHCA High School National Academic Squad member.
