EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wildcats once again competed in the Midwest 11v11 Spring League, which provided an early glimpse at the 2007 product, while also allowing players and coaches to gauge their off-season progress and to prepare for summer workouts and fall practices in August.

Northwestern went 3-3-1 over the course of the season, recording two shutouts thanks to junior goalkeeper Emily Kyle's outstanding performances in the net. After experiencing a different style of play on their week-long excursion in England, the 'Cats opened league action with an impressive 4-2 victory at home against last year's conference champion, Ohio State. Also that weekend, NU dropped a 3-0 decision to Iowa.

The following weekend, the 'Cats traveled to Oxford, Ohio to battle Michigan and Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, April 14. NU emerged 0-1-1, falling to Michigan 3-0 and catching Miami (Ohio) in a 1-1 deadlock.

The following day, Northwestern traveled up the road to Columbus where they concluded the League with a 2-1 record. The 'Cats posted back-to-back shutouts early in the day, defeating Kent State and Central Michigan by identical scores of 2-0. Northwestern met conference foe Michigan State, who was hungry for a win against the 'Cats after NU handed the Spartans a loss in their only regular-season meeting. MSU edged the Wildcats, 1-0.

Northwestern added an exclamation point to the spring slate the following weekend, hosting the annual Alumni Event at Lakeside Field. Please click on the gallery above to view photos from the exciting event!

Newly appointed team captains Amanda Care and Katie Charles reflected on the spring campaign.

"As a team we have made great strides over the course of spring," the future seniors said. "Our tournament play and international experience has prepared us well for the fall season and we can't wait to get out there and compete in August."
