Northwestern Falls in Big Ten Tournament
Nov. 1, 2007
COLUMBUS, Ohio-- Annie Bosslet's (Granite City, Ill./Villa Duchesne (Mo.)) tip-in on a shot by Stephanie Fortson (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton) was not enough as NU fell 4-1 to seventh-ranked Michigan State on Thursday at the Big Ten Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. Michigan State (16-4) started off the game with the first goal nine minutes into the contest, which was scored by Kathryn Elenz-Martin. Minutes later, Jantine Steinmetz added to the lead with a back-handed shot in front of the goal. With seven minutes remaining in the first half, MSU scored its third goal of the game on a rebound from a shot that clanked off the post. NU (4-14) nearly got on the board at the outset of the second half on an attack by Alex Quinn (Watertown, Mass./Watertown), which ended in a near-miss by Courtney Plaster-Strange (Hodgenville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) in front of the cage. Bosslet then deflected a shot past the MSU keeper at 16:27 in the second half to give the 'Cats their first goal. The goal was her second of the season and Fortson's first assist. MSU responded with the final tally two minutes later.
Northwestern closed out the game with all six seniors in the game.
