Box Score

Northwestern's field hockey team lost to fifth-ranked Michigan State, 2-0, at Lakeside Field on Northwestern's campus Saturday afternoon. MSU scored two second-half goals to improve to 17-2 overall, 4-1 in the Big Ten. NU falls to 4-12, 0-5.

Senior Kendra Mesa (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) started in the cage for NU, notching a season-high eight saves. Mesa made a pair of diving stops following MSU corners in the first half.

NU's defense played confidently, repeatedly turning away the Spartan attack. But MSU attempted 19 penalty corners, scoring on two.

MSU's Judith van Haeringen opened the scoring midway through the second half. With NU fielding just ten players due to a caution, van Hareringen fired a shot off Mesa into the back of the cage. State's Michelle Huynh-Ba finished the scoring 10 minutes later, deflecting a van Haeringen shot just under the crossbar.

The 'Cats' are next in action Friday, November 1, when they wrap up the Big Ten season against Indiana at Lakeside Field. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
