IOWA CITY, Iowa-- Northwestern put on a late second half charge against No. 5 Iowa on Thursday, but could not convert on any of its three penalty corners in the last five minutes of the game and fell 3-1 at Grant Field.

Iowa (14-2, 5-1) struck first from the top of the circle in the second minute of the game to put the Hawkeyes up 1-0. Stephanie Fortson (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton) answered the goal for the Wildcats (4-12, 0-5) in the 16th minute, as she tipped in a goal on a shot from outside the circle. The shot was her only of the contest.

Minutes later, Carolina Blaum made the game-winning goal, which was later added on to by Adrienne Dybus in the second half for the 3-1 margin.

In the last five minutes of the game, the Wildcats put on a furious rally, earning three penalty corners. Cassie Miller (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) fired two shots following the push from Katie Charles (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), but had one saved and one blocked by the stout Iowa defense. NU's last attempt came from a shot by Courtney Plaster-Strange (Hodgenville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day), which was also saved by the Hawkeye keeper, one of her three on the afternoon.

NU finished the day with 6 corners to Iowa's three and took six shots.

The 'Cats final regular season game of the year is at noon Sunday at Indiana.
