EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern fencers posted a total of 10 top-10 finishes en route to a solid all-around performance at the Remenyik Open held at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion and Aquatic Center (SPAC) this weekend.
Sophomore Christa French led the way for the Wildcats by winning the women's open epée title. French, the second seed, cruised through pool play with a perfect 5-0 record before advancing to the final where she edged top-seeded Christine Dominick by a 15-14 score.
Northwestern also got a third-place finish from junior Joanna Niklinska and an eighth-place finish from sophomore Sarah Henning.
In the women's open foil, junior Sam Nemecek dominated in advancing all the way to the championship match before falling to Grace Hartman. Senior Natalie Wang, who was defeated by Nemecek in the semifinals, finished third. Sophomore Karolyn Szot chipped in with a seventh-place finish.
The Wildcats had a total of four individuals place in the top 10 of the women's open sabre, highlighted by senior Gina Annunziato who took third. Freshman Lily Sibert claimed fifth place, while classmates Liz Sachs were seventh and 10th, respectively.
Northwestern will return to action Nov. 3-4 when it hosts the NU Duals.
