EVANSTON, Ill. - This is it--the last regular season game of the 2003-04 women's basketball season. Next week the Wildcats will travel to Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to compete in the Big Ten Tournament. Northwestern is coming off a 73-46 loss at Minnesota on Sunday and looks to right the ship at Michigan, a team that beat them 62-43 to open the Big Ten season on January 4. All-Big Ten and All-America candidate Jennifer Smith leads the Wolverines and is just five points from adding the title of Michigan's all-time single-season scoring leader to her list of accomplishments during a career senior season. A career 12.4 scorer heading into this season, Smith leads the Big Ten with a 21.4 average and could become the first Wolverine to ever win a Big Ten scoring title. Samantha McComb still lead the 'Cats in scoring with 10.3 points per game and is third on the team in league scoring, averaging 7.5 ppg. Ifeoma Okonkwo, who is second in overall scoring with 8.9 ppg, leads NU in rebounding both overall (5.7 rpg) and in conference play (5.3 rpg). Freshman Alex Mueller currently leads the Wildcats in Big Ten scoring (9.2 ppg) and is first in the league with her .432 3-point field goal percentage. This is the 47th meeting between Northwestern and Michigan, with NU holding a 30-16 edge. The Wildcats' last win of the 2002-03 season was vs. Michigan, a 67-38 victory.
