'Cats Nipped By Hoosiers, 84-53
Dec. 31, 2007
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Indiana used a 52-percent shooting effort en route to an 84-53 victory over Northwestern Monday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Freshman Meshia Reed (Country Club Hills, Ill./Stockbridge (Ga.)) led Northwestern with a career-best 23 points. Freshman Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) was the Wildcats' top rebounder with nine. Northwestern scored its first four points on free throws before Reed's bucket with 13:57 to go put the Wildcats within two, 8-6. Indiana then went on a 12-2 run, thanks to back-to-back-to-back treys, to take a 21-8 advantage midway through the frame. A trey by Reed at the 8:05 point cut the Hoosier lead to 10, and the Wildcats held IU to two buckets over the next four minutes to pull within single-digits. But Indiana went on a 10-4 run to end the half and go ahead 41-24. Northwestern hung with the Hoosiers for the opening five minutes of the half before Indiana went on an 14-2 run to push the lead to 64-33 with 8:38 remaining. IU held Northwestern to 10 second-half baskets en route to the victory.
The Wildcats are next in action on Sunday, Jan. 6 when they travel to Ann Arbor to battle Michigan in a 1 p.m. CT game.
