EVANSTON, Ill. -- After placing second in the freestyle competition at last month's University Nationals, Northwestern sophomore Mike Tamillow (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) is set to compete in the 2006 Senior World Team Trials, May 27-28 in Sioux City, Iowa. The winner of each weight class qualifies for the U.S. World freestyle team, which will compete in the World Championships in Guangzhou, China.

Tamillow qualified for the Senior World Team Trials after going 3-1 at University Nationals.

There, he received a bye in the first two rounds before winning three-straight matches by a combined score of 27-3.

In the final round, Tamillow fell to Ohio International's J.D. Bergman 3-1, 3-0 to claim second place.

Tamillow is slated to compete at the 96 KG/211.5-pound weight class. He will face Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club's Sean Stender in the first round.

"Mike is prepared to face the best competition that the U.S. has to offer at his weight class," Pariano said. "He is up for the challenge."

The World Team Trials will use a new format in Sioux City where all the matches in a weight class will be contested in one day, to mirror the format used at the World Championships.

Freestyle wrestlers at 55 kg/121 pounds, 60 kg/132 pounds and 96 kg/211.5 pounds are scheduled to compete on Saturday with wrestlers at 66 kg/145.5 pounds, 74 kg/163 pounds, 84 kg/185 pounds and 120 kg/264.5 pounds taking the mat on Sunday.
