Northwestern Drops First of Two Weekend Duals; Face William & Mary on Sunday
Feb. 9, 2008 RICHMOND, Va. -- Northwestern suffered a 4-1 loss to the Virginia Commonwealth Rams on Saturday afternoon, with the lone point thanks to an Alex Sanborn victory at No. 3 singles. The 'Cats will look to rebound against William & Mary at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Northwestern lost all three matches of the doubles point. Marc Dwyer and Sanborn fell 8-6 to the Rams' team of Sebastien Ripoll and Emil Lindgren at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, the duo of Pete Rispoli and Alexander Thams lost to Martin Schulhauser and Thibaut Charron by a score of 8-3, but still have a 5-3 record on the season. Juan Gomez and David Seyferth were defeated 8-6 at No. 3 doubles by the tandem of Stepan Siska and Bobo Delemark. Northwestern's lone point of the match came with Sanborn's 6-2, 6-7(5), 10-4 victory at No. 3 singles against VCU's Siska. Sanborn now holds a 7-1 singles record in dual matches this season. Dwyer fell at No. 1 singles to the Rams' Schulhauser by a score of 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, the Wildcats' Thams lost to Thibaut Charron 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Pete Rispoli suffered a 6-2, 6-2 defeat to VCU's Lindgren. No. 5 and No. 6 singles did not finish because the match was already decided.
