EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's associate head coach Sergio Lopez has been named the head men's and women's swimming coach at West Virginia University.

Lopez served as a Wildcat assistant from 2000-03 before being promoted to associate head coach last season. During his tenure, 10 different Northwestern swimmers earned All-America status and 43 of the school's 56 records were broken. The Wildcats also produced eight Big Ten champions under his tutelage.

A nine-time All-American at Indiana and American Universities, Lopez coached the stroke group, was NU's recruiting coordinator, designed and implemented workouts, weight training and dry-land programs and was in charge of the team's fund-raising while with the Wildcats.
