No. 5 Northwestern has Four No. 1 Seeds at NCAA Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's contingent of five swimmers headed to the NCAA Championships March 15-17 in Minneapolis, Minn., has earned four No. 1 seeds and nine top-3 seeds according to the official psyche sheet released by the NCAA. NU's entries comprise 14 individual swims and a team in all five NCAA Championships relay events. Individually, senior Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) is the No. 1 seed in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. He also has the No. 6 seed in the 200 IM. Classmate and two-time defending NCAA 100 backstroke champion Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) is the No. 1 seed in the 200 back, the No. 3 seed in the 100 back and the No. 7 seed in the 200 IM. Junior Kyle Bubolz (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) is the No. 2 seed in the 100 butterfly, the No. 12 seed in the 100 free and the No. 13 seed in the 100 back. Junior Bruno Barbic (Zagreb, Croatia/V. Gymnazija) is the No. 3 seed in the 50 free and the No. 11 seed in the 100 free. Sophomore Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) earned the No. 12 seed in the 500 free, the No. 22 seed in the 200 free and the No. 27 seed in the 200 fly. The Wildcats' relays all earned top-10 seeds for the NCAA Championships. The 400 medley relay is the top seed, while the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay are No. 2 seeds. NU's 400 free relay is seeded sixth, and the 800 free relay is seeded ninth.
