EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern men's soccer coach Tim Lenahan announced the signing of 12 players to National Letters of Intent. The class of 2006 will begin play for the Wildcats next season.
In his first recruiting class at NU, Lenahan concentrated on the defensive end of the field, signing two goalkeepers and four defenders. He also added five midfielders and one forward. The 12 athletes represent eight different states, including three Illinois natives.
"This will be the recruiting class that puts Northwestern University on the soccer map," said Lenahan. "All the players we recruited truly believe that great things are in store for NU soccer. The size and talent level of this class puts it among the top recruiting classes in the Big Ten. We've added speed, size, athleticism, and both attacking and defending players."
"What impressed me most was that each player coming in understands fully the work that needs to be done to build this program," he continued. "I couldn't be more pleased with the quality and character of the players that have decided to make Northwestern their home for the next four years."
