Evanston, Ill. - Northwestern men's soccer coach Tim Lenahan announced the hiring of Matt Keeler as the Wildcats' second assistant coach. Keeler will be primarily responsible for developing and coaching the Wildcat goalkeepers.

Keeler was a member of the Wildcats from 1996-99. He is the only player in NU history to earn first team All-Big Ten honors in men's soccer. Captain of the 1999 squad, Keeler was named the team's MVP his junior and senior seasons. His name is among the top 10 in every goalkeeping record at NU, including his 11.5 career shutouts which ranks second all-time.

In addition to his playing experience, Keeler has been a counselor at numerous soccer camps and clinics in Michigan and Illinois.

After graduation, Keeler took a job at Hull Trading as a financial analyst, but the opportunity to return to his alma mater as a coach was too great to ignore. He will begin his coaching duties immediately.

"We are very excited to have Matt join our staff," said Lenahan. "As the goalkeeper coach, he will be instrumental in the development of our young goalkeepers. He left a successful career in the finance industry and is making a tremendous financial sacrifice to become a coach. As the only first team All-Big Ten men's soccer player in Northwestern history, he will be able to share the vision we have for the future of the program with fellow soccer alums and other members of the Northwestern community."
