EVANSTON, Ill. - David Roth, Northwestern's career leader in assists and the school's third-leading scorer, has been selected by the New York Red Bulls in the fourth round (44th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft held Friday.

Roth is the second player to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft, joining Brad North who was a second-round pick of the D.C. United a year ago.

"It's great for Dave and great for the program," Northwestern head coach Tim Lenahan said. "He's been one of the most productive players, particularly as a left-footed midfielder, in the country over the past four years. I think it's a great opportunity for him. I know the Red Bull staff loved his personality when they interviewed him at the combine. I thought he had an outstanding combine and I think they got a steal in the fourth round. We're very excited for him."

The St. Louis, Mo., native was a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection and was named a second-team NSCAA All-American following his senior season.

Roth led the Wildcats with six goals and 19 points while finishing second on the team with seven assists during the 2007 campaign. He finished his career as the school's all-time leader with 32 assists, while ranking third with 70 total points.
