MADISON, Wis. - The Northwestern men's soccer team fell in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament to Penn State, 2-0, Thursday afternoon in Madison, Wis.

The Nittany Lions put up two first half goals on nine shots to advance to the semifinals against Michigan State at 5 p.m. Friday. Both PSU's goals came within five minutes of each other. Gabe Bernstein scored in the 27th minute and Chad Severs followed that up with a goal in the 31st.

Ryan Pederson (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville) was in goal for the Wildcats. The freshman made six stops, holding the Nittany Lions scoreless for the last 60 minutes of play.

This game marked improvement from their regular season showdown in which PSU outscored NU 3-0.

The 'Cats season is not over yet as they have scheduled a make-up game with Valparaiso at 1 p.m. Sunday. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 12.
