Chris Wilson Earns Invite to NCAA Regional Championships
May 9, 2005 EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sophomore Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) has earned one of the 18 at-large invitations to this year's three NCAA Regional Championships. Wilson, who earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2004-05, will be playing in the Central Regional in South Bend, Ind., May 19-21. If Wilson is one of the top two individual finishers (not a member of one of the 10 advancing teams) at the Central Regional, he will advance to the NCAA National Championships in Owing Mills, Md. Wilson led the Wildcats in scoring average with a 74.11 average this year. He had three top-10 finishes, including a sixth-place showing at the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships in February. Wilson is coming off a 13th-place finish at the Big Ten Championships, where he recorded an even-par 216. Last September, the Wildcats competed in the Notre Dame Invitational & Central Regional Preview and Wilson fired a 76 and a 75 on the same course (Warren Golf Course) the NCAA will conduct the Central Regional. Under current head coach Pat Goss, Northwestern has advanced either a player or its entire team to NCAA regional competition the past nine years.
