EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) was named a second-team All-Big Ten selection today by the league's head coaches.

Merkow is leading the Wildcats in stroke average (74.44) this year and has seven top-20 finishes (among 11 tournaments). Merkow owns a career stroke average of 74.18, which ranks sixth on Northwestern's all-time list. He earned first-team All-Big Ten honors last year when he was named the Big Ten Player of the Year.

Senior Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) was named Northwestern's 2006-07 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient. It was the second such honor of his career, after receiving the award in 2004-05. Wilson was the 2006 Big Ten medalist.

Northwestern is awaiting word on its postseason fate. The Wildcats, ranked 36th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin index, are seeking an at-large berth in this year's NCAA Championships. The field will be announced Monday, May 7.
