Wildcats Prepared for Puerto Rico Classic
Feb. 28, 2008
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern travels to Puerto Rico February 28 through March 2 for its first tournament of the spring season, the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue. The tournament will be held at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, featuring wide fairways and open greens. The par-72, 6,945 yard River Course will be played for all three rounds. The three-day tournament consists of a single 18-hole round on each day. After a good spring-opening dual match against Jacksonville, NU will be playing in a very skilled tournament field of 15 in Puerto Rico. Included in this field are 13 teams from the Golfweek/Sagarin Top 50, most notably defending Puerto Rico Classic champions No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Alabama, No. 4 Oklahoma State and No. 6 Georgia Tech. Northwestern also will be squaring off against Michigan, Minnesota and Purdue from the Big Ten. Led by sophomore David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) and freshman Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic), the Wildcats started off the spring season with a win over Jacksonville on Feb. 23 at Pablo Creek Golf Course in Jacksonville. Lipsky shot an impressive 4-under 68, with no bogies to become the dual-match medalist and Dupont carded a 1-under 71 with four birdies.
