SUNRIVER, Ore. -- With 18 holes remaining before the 54-hole cut at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, the 17th-seeded Wildcats will need to move up several spots in the standings in Friday's third round in order to play on Saturday. NU shot a 7-over 295 and is in a tie for 18th place.

The low 15 teams and low six individuals not on those teams will move on to Saturday's final round. Ties for the cut will be broken by a sudden death playoff, or if necessary by a non sudden death tiebreaking procedure.

NU is very much in contention for a spot in the final round. The 'Cats -- who are tied with Charlotte, Duke and Texas Tech at 11-over 587 -- are just four strokes behind 15th-place Coastal Carolina and UNLV, which are tied at 7-over 583. Arizona, No.1-ranked Georgia and North Carolina State are tied for 12th at 3-over.

The Wildcats' second round could have been better than its first, if it were not for two very punishing holes. A triple bogey and a quadruple bogey for a total of 7-over both counted against NU's team score.

Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) had NU's best round of the day. The sophomore birdied hole Nos. 6-7 to reach 3-under heading to the 427-yard, par-4 8th hole -- his 17th on the day. Doyle finished with a 1-over 73. He stands at 4-over 148 (75-73) after two rounds.

Fellow sophomore Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) is tied with Doyle for 95th out of 156 players. Moore shot his second 74 of the Championships (74-74=148). Moore made four birdies in his first and second rounds.

Seven of Moore's eight birdies have come in his first nine holes each day. On Wednesday he made four birdies and four pars in his first seven holes. On Thursday Moore made three birdies, one bogey, and two pars in his first six holes. Moore played hole Nos. 1-9 first on Wednesday and hole Nos. 10-18 first on Thursday.

Like Moore, senior Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland) and junior Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) posted 2-over 74s in the second round. Dougherty made 16 pars and two bogeys in the second round while Moore made 14 pars, three bogeys and a birdie.

Dougherty is the highest 'Cat on the Championships leaderboard. He is tied for 44th at 1-over 145 (71-74). Wilson is a stroke back at 2-over 146 (72-74) and is tied for 63rd place.

The 'Cats' leader in scoring average heading into the Championships, junior David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union), posted a 7-over 79 in the second round. He has a two-round total of 10-over 154 (75-79).

The Washington Huskies lead the 30-team field at 13-under 563. Arizona State and first-round leader Wake Forest are three strokes back in a tie for second.

Wake Forest's Kyle Reifers, who led after round one, is still leading the individual race. He sits at 9-under 135 (65-70). There is a four-way tie for second at 6-under. Defending champion James Lepp of Washington is five strokes behind Reifers.

The 72-hole Championships are being hosted by the University of Portland on the 7,630-yard, par-72 Crossriver golf course in Sunriver, Ore.

Third-round tee times have been moved up 30 minutes and now begin at 9 a.m. CDT.

Live scoring for the event is available at NCAA Men's Golf National Championships.
