EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Northwestern is in second place at the Big Ten Championships following the first two rounds of play Friday at Forest Akers West golf course in East Lansing, Mich. The Wildcats currently have an 8-over 584, three strokes behind tournament leader Illinois.

Northwestern turned in a 5-over 293 in the first round Friday, good for a three-way tie for second place. The Wildcats then came back with a 3-over 291 in the second 18-holes, the second-best score of that round behind Illinois' even-par 288.

Northwestern is two strokes ahead of host Michigan State and seven shots ahead of fourth-place Ohio State.

Sophomore David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) is tied for fourth place, three strokes off the lead at 1-under after firing rounds of even-par 72 and 1-under 71. All of the Wildcats started on the back nine of the par-72, 7,013 yard course, and Lipsky made a trio of birdies on the front during his second round to dip under par.

Sophomore Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) is tied for seventh place, following a 1-under 71 in the first round with a 1-over 73 in the second to record an even-par 144 on the first day of competition.

Senior Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) is tied for 15th place, carding rounds of 1-over 73 and 3-over 75 on Friday. Freshman Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) recovered from an opening round 7-over 79 to help NU's team cause with an even-par 72 in round two, the 'Cats' second-best total of the round. Dupont jumped from 47th place after the first round to 25th after the second.

Senior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) rounded out NU's play Friday tied for 32nd at 9-over 32 (77-76).

Day two of the Big Ten Championships begins at 8 a.m. CT tomorrow, Saturday, April 26, with the third round at Forest Akers West.
