EUGENE, Ore. -- With rain hampering play on the final nine holes, Northwestern's Bjorn Widerstedt (Vasteras, Sweden/Carlforsska Gymnasiet) shrugged off the damp weather and posted one of the top scores (70) of the day to finish fourth overall at 6-under (66-74-70=210). As a team, the Wildcats tied Washington State for seventh place at 18-over (293-294-295=882).
Widerstedt, who was coming off a sixth-place showing in his last tournament, equaled a career best effort with his fourth-place finish. Widerstedt finished fourth earlier this year at Northwestern's Windon Memorial Classic. He has been NU's medalist in the Wildcats' last three tournaments.
Arizona and Washington finished in a first-place tie for the team title. No playoffs were held for the teams or individuals (Oregon's John Ellis and Washington's Brock Mackenzie were tied atop the leaderboard at 9-under) due to rain/standing water on the course. Light rain began about halfway through the final round and became a heavy downpour over the last four holes.
Junior Casey Strunk (Phoenix, Ariz./Thunderbird) placed 45th with an 8-over 224 (74-73-77). Sophomore Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland), who was one of three Wildcats playing as an individual, finished 50th at 9-over (74-79-72=225).
Senior Scott Harrington (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) and junior Tom Johnson (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) both carded 74's on Tuesday to finish 58th and 66th, respectively. Harrington finished 10-over (79-73-74=226) and Johnson was 13-over (81-74-74=229). Junior T.C. Ford (Covington, La./Mandeville) also equaled Johnson's finish with a 13-over 229 (74-78-77).
The Wildcats return to action April 12-13 at the Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio. The remainder of Northwestern's tournaments take place in the Midwest.
