Puerto Rico Classic Day One Results (PDF Format) Get Acrobat Reader

RIO GRANDE, P.R. -- Northwestern is in fifth place at the star-studded Puerto Rico Classic following a strong opening round of 2-over 290 at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, P.R.

The Wildcats trail No. 2 Alabama and East Tennessee State by one stroke, while No. 4 Oklahoma State and Clemson are tied for the lead following identical rounds of 4-under 284.

Sophomore David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) led the Wildcats with a 2-under 70 on Friday, putting him in a tie for sixth place in the individual standings. Lipsky shot identical scores of 1-under 35 on both the front and back nines.

Freshman Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) and sophomore Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) each used strong back nines to card opening round scores of 1-over 73. Dupont fired a 3-over 39 going out before recovering with a 2-under 34 coming in. Bowers had a 38 on the front and a 35 on the back nine. Both currently are tied for 24th place.

Senior Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) went 38-36 to turn in a 2-over 74 for the Wildcats, while senior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) had a 3-over 75 to round out Northwestern's day on the par 72, 6,902 yard course.

The second round of the Puerto Rico Classic takes place Saturday with the final round of the three-day event on Sunday. For complete results from Friday's action, click on the .pdf at the top of this page.
