CYPRESS, Texas -- Spurred by a solid 8-under-par 280 in the Rice Intercollegiate's second round, Northwestern's 14th-ranked Wildcats hold a 13-shot lead over second-place Missouri. The tournament, which is being held at the BlackHorse Golf Club's North Course, concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.

Individual leader Scott Harrington (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) is atop the leaderboard after firing back-to-back 68's in the first two rounds. He is one of four Wildcats in the top 17. Freshman Bryson Young (Reno, Nev./Galena) is competing as an individual (his score does not count in Northwestern's team total), but is in third place with a 1-under 143.

In the second round, the Wildcats were boosted by senior Bjorn Widerstedt (Vasteras, Sweden/Carlforssska Gymnasiet) and junior Casey Strunk (Phoenix, Ariz./Thunderbird), who shaved a combined 18 strokes off their first-round scores to vault into 10th and 17th place, respectively. Strunk shot a 4-under 68 in the second round after an 8-over 80 in the first round.

Harrington coasted through the 7,075-yard course. He recorded two eagles to go along with 10 birdies during the day's 36 holes. He holds a two-stroke lead on Missouri's Chris Happ (70-68=138), and the duo will be paired together for the final round on Tuesday.

Junior Tom Johnson (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) is in fourth place at even par (70-74), eight strokes behind his teammate, Harrington.

The final 18 holes of the third annual Rice Intercollegiate begin at 7:30 am at BlackHorse.
