Zeke Speaks: Camp Kenosha
After a restful Sunday to get our bodies healthy from the scrimmage we were back on the field bright and early Monday for our last day of Camp Kenosha. What a beautiful day we had to go out and enjoy the game of football. I think a lot of the guys -- especially the seniors -- were able to see that toward the end of camp. It wasn't so much about worrying about messing up or how long practice was, it was about going out and having a blast playing the game we love. It sure makes it a lot more fun when you can start seeing the bigger picture behind the daily grind of camp. Practice went well. The offense came out strong and made some big plays but the defense battled back and did a great job finishing. We mixed in some special teams work in the middle of practice then finished with more situational football in which the offense had the lead and needed to run the clock out. After practice we had some quick meetings, lunch, and more meetings before we headed out onto the field for our second practice, our last at Camp Kenosha. The offense came out rolling -- big plays by my close friend and fellow wide-out Andrew Brewer as well as Sid Stewart got the offensive sideline up and animated. I would have to say Kevin Mitchell is the ring leader when it comes to sideline chants. He always comes up with something catchy and pretty funny to chant over at the defense after a big play by the offense. Then as quickly as it started it was over. For me and all the seniors, it was our last practice in Kenosha. There was a lot of joking around as we all walked up to the locker room about how many more times the freshmen would be back up to Kenosha and how none of us would miss the eight-minute sessions in the cold tub. We loaded up the buses and started our way back to Evanston. We have a few more practices at home before we start our game-week preparation for Towson -- which is when the real fun begins. I had a lot of fun writing the Zeke Speaks blog this year so thanks to all of you who followed it. I'm sure you are as excited as we are to get this season rolling and make it one to remember. Go 'Cats. -Zeke
