EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern linebacker Adam Kadela (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team@ today. He is one of 11 Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly NCAA Division I-A) players on the 2007 team.

Nominees have to be actively involved and committed to working with a charitable organization, service group or involved in other community service activities. They also have to display sincere concern and reliability, while also having made a favorable impression on the organizations with which they are involved.

Kadela, who is enrolled in graduate school at Northwestern and is in his final year of eligibility, is involved in numerous activities on and off campus.

He is a regular volunteer for the American Cancer Society Generation Fit Program, discussing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle with elementary school children. He also organized a football relay team for the NU Relay for Life. Kadela annually visits Children's Memorial Hospital and Lutheran General Hospital, and participates in Northwestern football's annual fund-raising event (Candy Days) for Misericordia, a residential home for developmentally and physically disabled individuals.

"Adam, like so many of our players, does a tremendous job of giving back to our community," said NU head coach Pat Fitzgerald. "He is an outstanding individual and very worthy of this honor."

Last year, Northwestern place-kicker Joel Howells was one of the 11 Good Works Team honorees.

"It never ceases to amaze me to see the contributions student-athletes make to their communities," AFCA Executive Director Grant Teaff said. "Often times, these young men are better known for the good things they do on the field. The AFCA is proud to recognize these student-athletes for the good things they do in their communities."
