Northwestern Athletics To Take Part In 87th Evanston Fourth of July Parade
June 30, 2008
Wrigleyville Event Photo Gallery EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Coaches' Caravan is set to make its next stop Friday at the 87th Evanston Fourth of July Parade. Fans can pick up free Wildcat items to get ready for the season and take pictures with Willie the Wildcat and NU's last three Big Ten Championship trophies. The Wildcat fan booth will be located at the end of the parade route in the Ryan Field parking lot at the corner of Ashland and Central. The theme of this year's parade is "Remember the Past, Imagine the Future," which is what the Wildcats will be doing at the end of the parade route by inviting fans to take pictures with the last three football Big Ten Championship trophies (1995, 1996, 2000). Fans can also get pictures taken with Willie the Wildcat (after 2:30 p.m.) and can pick up free Wildcat items to get ready for the football season from Noon - 4 p.m. Northwestern Athletics will also be represented in the parade by several members of NU's 19 varsity athletic teams, along with Wildcat Kids' Club Members and NU Athletic Staff. One of the previous stops on the Coaches' Caravan was down near Wrigley Field before the Sunday night contest between the Cubs and White Sox on June 22. Several former players from the 2000 Championship Team, including Louis Ayeni and Zak Kustok were on hand as NU teamed up with WGN Radio during their pregame show in the McDonald's parking lot. Fans were able to get pictures taken with the players and the Big Ten Championship trophy before heading into the game.
The Coaches' Caravan kicked off its tour with Pat Fitzgerald at the Brookfield Zoo over Memorial Day Weekend. The next stop for the Coaches' Caravan is the annual Take Me Out to Mullen's event with Coach Fitzgerald on Sunday, July 27. Coach Fitzgerald will be singing the 7th Inning Stretch at the Cubs game that afternoon, so be sure to stop by Mullen's on Clark (near Addison) to meet him before the game.
The Wildcats will be teaming up with WGN Radio for more appearances at the pregame broadcast booth in August and September so keep checking NUsports.com for updates for the Coaches' Caravan or e-mail wildcatmarketing@northwestern.edu. |
