EVANSTON, Ill. -- More than 200 participants -- including volunteers, children, student-athletes, former players and Wildcat sponsors -- took part in the inaugural Walk for Randy Saturday, April 26, before Northwestern's Spring Game at Ryan Field.

The participants walked a route that Coach Walker used to take with his dog, Magic, and altogether raised $2,600 for the Randy Walker Fund. There also were several donations from Miami (Ohio) from folks who could not attend, but wanted to support the event. Gatorade and Pepsi provided water, Gatorade and Gatorade bars for the walkers.

Coach Walker's wife, Tammy, and son, Jamie, spoke to the crowd before participating in the walk, and former Wildcat great Mike Adamle served as the grand marshal. Groups from across Northwestern's athletic department pitched in, with members of the cross country team cheering on the walkers, and field hockey head coach Kelly McCollum and members of her squad aiding with the check-in process.

Head coach Pat Fitzgerald paid for the members of his staff and their families who walked Saturday. The 12 members of the 2008 graduating senior class also walked in the event.
