EVANSTON, Ill. -- Under more brisk conditions than they saw in their first two spring practices, the Wildcats strapped on just shoulder pads Wednesday for their third practice at NU's outdoor turf facility.

The Wildcats are conducting their 11 weekday practices at 7:25 a.m. this year. Northwestern's three Saturday practices begin at 9:15 a.m. with the Spring Game slated for a noon start on April 21.

After practice, defensive coordinator Greg Colby spoke with NUSports.com All-Access about the state of the defense this spring. He discussed the competition for starting linebacker positions, the depth of the defensive line and the younger players he expects to compete for playing time in the fall.

PRACTICE NOTES:
• Spring practice number four is set for 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, with the Wildcats set to don full pads for the first time this spring.
• Northwestern held its annual Pro Timing Day Thursday afternoon. Eight former Wildcats displayed their strength and speed skills for 20 NFL scouts and coaches. Former NU players participating included: Erryn Cobb, Marquice Cole, Demetrius Eaton, Terrell Jordan, Shaun Herbert, Ryan Keenan, Nick Roach and Joe Tripodi. Cole dazzled the scouts with a 4.33 to 4.35 40-time.
• Friday, an off-day for the Wildcats, is "Picture Day" for NU's football team. The Wildcats will be taking new coat and tie head shots, which will be used for publicity purposes. Clothing worn by the Wildcats for these photos is being provided to the Athletic Department by Men's Wearhouse.
