EVANSTON, Ill. -- With winter workouts behind them, Northwestern is beginning preparations for the 2008 spring season, which begins Tuesday, April 1 with an early-morning session.

Northwestern will conduct 15 spring practices, which includes the annual Spring Game at noon on Saturday, April 26. (Northwestern's "Walk for Randy" is set for 9 a.m.).

The Wildcats' weekday practices are being held in the morning, with most sessions starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday practices, other than the Spring Game, begin at 9 or 9:30 a.m.

Northwestern is returning 19 starters (8 offense, 7 defense, 4 special teams) in 2008. The Wildcats' biggest offseason questions come on the offensive line, where three starters must be replaced, and at linebacker, where leading tackler Adam Kadela graduated.

"Our winter season went well and we're looking forward to a productive spring," says head coach Pat Fitzgerald, who begins his third year with the Wildcats. "The offseason is extremely important to the development of a football team and I like where we're headed."

Northwestern's top returnees include quarterback C.J. Bachér, wide receiver Eric Peterman, running back Tyrell Sutton and defensive tackle John Gill. All four of those players received All-Big Ten recognition from at least one organization last year.

You can follow the Wildcats during the spring on NUsports.com with daily updates (video included) on practice, as well as a regular blog from senior wide receiver Eric Peterman.

NOTE: Spring practices, other than the Spring Game, are CLOSED to the general public. For high school coaches, scouts, friends of the program, etc., wishing to attend practice, please contact Ryan Kessenich or Niel Stopczynski in the NU football office (847-491-7274) for a practice credential.
